The storyline inside the movie shows this. Chaplin’s tramp falls in appreciate with Merna, who returns his affection. Then, a tightrope walker named Rex (performed by Henry Bergman) comes onto the scene and Merna instantly falls in appreciate with him. Why? Simply because his act is daring and perilous while Chaplin’s clown act has less Status.
